Original Pancake House

Our Story

In 1965 the Harrigan Brothers bought The Original Pancake House franchise on Western Avenue. Committed to the quality of the recipes and ingredients used to prepare these delicious pancakes, waffles and crepes- the Harrigans have been loyal members of the business community for 50 years. People return often and for generations have called The Original Pancake House “home”! We take pride in our colonial “house on the hill” and the décor reflects a warm feeling with three fireplaces, floor to ceiling woodwork and an old-world charm. Families have made breakfast with us a tradition and we believe our batters made from scratch, specially blended coffee and freshly squeezed juices are the reasons they return to us so often. Taste and see why we really are the “Original”!

The Original Pancake House Story

The Original Pancake House was founded in 1953 by Les Highet and Erma Hueneke. Drawing upon their many years experience in the culinary field and their comprehensive working knowledge of authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes, they were able to create and offer without compromise unique and original recipes which have gained national acclaim and remain unchanged to this day.

These recipes demand only the very finest of ingredients such as 93 score butter, pure whipping cream, fresh Grade AA eggs, hard wheat unbleached flour, and our sourdough yeast. A sourdough starter is used in many of our batters. It is made in our own kitchen from a culture of potatoes, flour, sugar, and activated by a “start of yeast.” This sourdough starter produces light, airy, fine-textured pancakes. We blend, roast and grind The Original Pancake House Coffee to our exacting specifications to further enhance your meal.

It is our constant objective to serve you the finest pancakes available anywhere and to give you pleasant, courteous and unobtrusive service. Thank you for coming to The Original Pancake House. We hope you will come back often. The Original Pancake House franchises are now in operation coast to coast – imitators everywhere – look for the Highet and Hueneke Registered Trademark.
